We took a different route this time...instead of driving around Flathead Lake, we went East a little and came up hwy 83, through the Swan Valley. The road is pretty straight, and passes by beautiful scenery like this.

We arrived around 1pm. After stopping at Fish, Wildlife and Parks to pick up keys, paperwork and uniforms, and a quick hi to Amber, we soon got settled under our canopy of birch, aspen, pine, and cedar. Can't wait for the season to begin.
But for now, it's raining...so what!

BACK TO MONTANA! 2011

As our Palo Verde profusely creates pretty but messy blossoms, we pack up the rig for our next big adventure.

On our way up to Flagstaff from Tucson, we decided to stop at Montezuma Castle....something we've always meant to do, but never made time. These are large cliff dwellings that were home to the Sinagua indians from about 1100 to 1200 ad. At the base of the cliffs is Beaver Creek.

On our way past the north rim of the Grand Canyon, we stop to see where we're going.
Down along the Vermillion Cliffs, and across the Colorado River, we see many Dine' hogans. Their doors always face east.

DESERT HEAT 2011

We were looking for something new and different to do, and I think we found it.
SARA, Southern Arizona Rocket Association, had its annual rocket launch open to the public. As indicated on the picture, this place is in the middle of nowhere!
This was an all weekend event, but we were
intrigued by the dusk til 9 launchings.
They started with the small ones (1 to 2 feet,
then progressed to the bigger ones.
Next year, we will: dress warmer, bring
chairs, and maybe even a picnic dinner!

This club is definitely family oriented.....everybody celebrates being a kid!

These rockets represent a lot of work and $$ too, I assume.....
